The Stone

By Karen Shaw Matteson
©2001

It is so heavy as I push
Seeking to remove this obstacle

The years have increased the size
and weight of this burden

The light is filtering through
and I want to reach it

My spirit cries out to God
"Help me"

And I feel the touch of an angel
Gently lifting me up

With silent resolve,
He leads me to the Light

The stone is gone
And I look up and see
The heavens bright

My strength was insufficient..
But you heard, and saw my plight

How warm the sun that shines on me
From light that leads eternally
